Our Tech

Pavegen is the global leader in harvesting energy and data from footfall. Its patented technology connects people to sustainability and smart cities, creating powerful experiences which convert footsteps into off-grid energy, rich data and rewards.

Pavegen supplies both permanent installations and experiential activations and it can power off-grid applications such as games, lighting, and environmental monitoring. With embedded Bluetooth connectivity, Pavegen can combine footfall data with analytics via apps to create powerful customer insights.

At Bird Street, a stunning 10-square metre Pavegen array will convert the footfall of visitors into electricity to power bird sounds during the day and lighting in the evening for an immersive visitor experience. The system will also provide a data feed on hourly footfall.

Founded in 2009 by Laurence Kemball-Cook, Pavegen has delivered 150 projects in 30 countries. Its latest model, the V3, won the 2017 Smart Cities Interactive Innovation award at South by Southwest.

Airlabs mission is to create clean air zones in cities by applying air cleaning technology in pollution hotspots, or areas that are the highly populated and highly polluted. The Airlabs team of atmospheric chemists and airflow engineers have developed the CleanAir bench to remove harmful urban pollutants including Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Particulate Matter (PM), so that visitors of Bird Street can give both their legs and lungs a break!

Airlite believes that technology can better people’s lives, while protecting the planet. Starting from this fundamental idea, Airlite has created an easy-to-use paint that cleans the air we breathe, removes bacteria and reduces energy consumption.

Painting the pods at Bird Street is part of its commitment to improve air-quality while taking care of the planet. Airlite reduces 88.8% of air pollution by neutralizing pollutants like nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide. These are same pollutants that trees neutralize.

Applying Airlite on a surface of 100 m2 reduces air pollution as effectively as an area of 100 m2 planted with mature trees. So in effect, planting a small patch of trees on Bird Street.

Airlite provides powerful protection against harmful bacteria like E. coli and Staph. Laboratory tests show it removes 99.9% of airborne germs, including antibiotic-resistant superbugs. Airlite technology naturally disinfects and sterilizes the space around it, creating healthier, safer environments. It’s 100% natural and VOC free making Bird Street the healthiest street in London.
